WPS BREAKING NEWS - SKY BLUE COACH LINDSEY RESIGNS, CAPTAIN RAMPONE IS NEW COACH...

What is going on at Sky Blue FC headquarters?..........

Christie Rampone has become Sky Blue's 3rd coach in as many months.

Sky Blue FC announced today that team captain and US Women's National Team star Christie Rampone has agreed to serve as interim player/coach of Sky Blue FC. Rampone will be assisted by long-time New Jersey coach Mike Lyons. This follows yesterday's resignation of Head Coach Kelly Lindsey.

"We are grateful to Christie for stepping up," said Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone. "She has been a tremendous leader and support to the players thus far, and a strong asset to management. We have every confidence both she and Mike will not only fill a void, but do a great job."

Regarding Lindsey's resignation, said Marrone, "We are actually quite shocked. We gave Kelly a great opportunity as Head Coach and she was making progress. We are disappointed that she chose to leave the team ten days prior to the end of the regular season, with two remaining games and Sky Blue FC in playoff contention."

Rampone will assume her duties immediately. The team has two remaining regular season games, and is currently in fifth place and in contention for one of the final three open playoff spots in the inaugural season of Women's Professional Soccer. The Los Angeles Sol has already clinched the number one playoff position.

SKY BLUE FC NEWS

Sky Blue FC announced today the official appointment of Kelly Lindsey as head coach of the team for the remainder of the 2009 Women's Professional Soccer season. Lindsey, formerly the assistant coach, had been designated interim head coach on May 23. According to Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone, "Kelly has more than proved herself worthy of this position. She took over at a difficult time, and has been at the helm of a team on the rise. We are optimistic about the future of our season under her leadership."

Lindsey will be joined by current Assistant Coach Joe Dorini.

"I want to thank the Sky Blue FC ownership group, and General Manager Gerry Marrone, for allowing me to guide the team through the remainder of the 2009 season," Lindsey said. "Joe and I are excited to continue with such a great group of women, and build a solid foundation for the Sky Blue FC family. We look forward to the climb toward the playoffs, and hope we can continue to provide New Jersey with a great team to support."

Prior to joining Sky Blue FC, Kelly Lindsey guided the Saint Mary's program for three seasons (2006-2008) after spending two years as the top assistant to Chris Petrucelli at the University of Texas. She also served as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado for one season in 2003. A United States Soccer Federation "A" License holder, Lindsey also worked with the US Under-21 National Team in 2004.

As a player, she played professionally for the San Jose CyberRays, winning a WUSA championship in 2001, and had four caps with the United States Women's National Team from 2000 to 2002. She also starred on the collegiate level at the University of Notre Dame.

With a 1-0 victory on Wednesday over the Chicago Red Stars, Sky Blue FC (3-5-3) climbed into a three-way tie for fourth place with the Boston Breakers (3-4-3) and FC Gold Pride (3-5-3) with 12 points each. The team, which played five straight road matches earlier in the season, continued its success at home raising its record to 2-1-2 including a four-match unbeaten streak.

Sky Blue FC continues its four-game homestand on Sunday, June 28 at 6 p.m. when it hosts Saint Louis Athletica at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
