MIDWEEK GAME - Wednesday 8th July

Los Angeles Sol v Saint Louis Athletica Wed July 8th 3pm ET Live audio Team 1380

Saint Louis Athletica finish up their two game trip to California on Wednesday afternoon when they take on the league leading Los Angeles Sol at The Home Depot Center in Carson. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. central time.3.00pm ET.

The matchup Wednesday is the final of the regular season between these two clubs. The first meeting back on April 25 resulted in a 0-0 draw. The next encounter on May 30 was a 2-0 win for the Sol and the third meeting on June 24 resulted in a 2-1 Los Angeles win.

Los Angeles will have the first opportunity to officially clinch the regular season title with a victory against on Wednesday. A tie would also benefit the Sol, as a draw would keep the gap between the two teams at 17 points, which means Athletica would have to win all six of its remaining games and Los Angeles would have to fail to earn a single point in their three remaining games this season for Saint Louis to overtake the Sol. A tie would also mean that the Boston Breakers would have to win all of its remaining seven games for any chance to overtake Los Angeles, while also needing Los Angeles to falter down the stretch.

Saint Louis is eager to avenge the two losses to the Sol. Each game thus far against Los Angeles has seen Athletica have an opportunity to win. In the first meeting in Saint Louis a Lori Chalupny penalty kicked was saved by Karina LeBlanc. LeBlanc again denied Athletica in the second meeting with a crucial first half stop on Eniola Aluko. And in the most recent meeting Athletica outshot the Sol 25-12 yet lost 2-1. The Sol scored goals on each of their only two chances during the game.

The Sol will be without defender Christie Shaner who underwent surgery on her broken leg Monday.Alison Falk herself out through injury could make a return to the centre of defence to partner Brittany Bock. Expect a party atmosphere as the Sol look to finish out their home stay undefeated.

Athletica again could name an unchanged line-up from the match at Gold Pride. They have now one 2 games in a row all away from home. They are in good form and must be optimistic of getting a result at the Home Depot Center.
